Soil Shallow, rocky quartz and mixed volcanic soils
Vinification Half of the grapes are de-stemmed and half are left whole cluster. Fermented in open top fermenters and gently foot tread or punched down once a day during native yeast fermentation. The free run was drained at dryness after 14 days on the skins
Aging Aged for 11 months in neutral 500L French oak puncheons. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Production 1,800 bottles
Notes "If there is a theme to the 2019 vintage so far, it is a combination of ripe & exotic aromatics with an uncommon elegance on the palate. The Heron Lake Pinot may be the best example of that yet. Aromatically it is intense - floral, brightly red fruited, and sweetly spicy with the fresh earth tones of a Pacific NW rain forest. On the palate it is elegant and precise like sculpted glass or a finely cut gemstone. The finish is shy at first, but lingers more as the wine opens up. I am fascinated to see how this wine ages. It has potential to be phenomenal in the medium term. rose petal, tangerine peel, cardamom, wild Maine blueberry flowers, moss, vibrant color, clean mineral tension on the palate, sophisticated glassy tannins on the finish Drink May 2021 - 2029" - John Lockwood
